Ernest Scott Prize 2020 shortlist announced

The shortlist for the 2020 Ernest Scott Prize for History has been announced.

The shortlisted titles are: 

  • Bedlam at Botany Bay (James Dunk, NewSouth)
  • The Seventies: The personal, the political and the making of modern Australia (Michelle Arrow, NewSouth)
  • Caroline’s Dilemma: A colonial inheritance saga (Bettina Bradbury, NewSouth)
  • Filming the Colonial Past: The New Zealand wars on screen (Annabel Cooper, Otago University Press).

The $13,000 prize is awarded annually to a work based on original research that contributes to the history of Australia or New Zealand or to the history of colonisation. The prize is presented by the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Arts in conjunction with the Australian Historical Association.

This year’s judges are University of Adelaide associate professor Paul Sendziuk and Victoria University of Wellington associate professor Kate Hunter.

The winner will be announced in early May.
