Grenville shortlisted for 2024 Women’s Prize for Fiction

In the UK, the shortlist for the 2024 Women’s Prize for Fiction has been announced.

Local author Kate Grenville has been shortlisted for Restless Dolly Maunder (Text).

The shortlisted titles are:

  • The Wren, the Wren (Anne Enright, Vintage)
  • Brotherless Night (V V Ganeshananthan, Viking)
  • Restless Dolly Maunder (Kate Grenville, Text)
  • Enter Ghost (Isabella Hammad, Vintage)
  • Soldier Sailor (Claire Kilroy, Faber)
  • River East, River West (Aube Rey Lescure, Duckworth).

The 2024 shortlist was chosen by judges Monica Ali (chair), Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ, Laura Dockrill, Indira Varma and Anna Whitehouse.

In a statement, Ali said: ‘This year’s shortlist features six brilliant, thought-provoking and spellbinding novels that between them capture an enormous breadth of the human experience. Readers will be captivated by the characters, the luminous writing and the exquisite storytelling. Each book is gloriously compelling and inventive and lingers in the heart and mind long after the final page.’

The winner will be announced on 13 June at an event in London, along with the winner of the 2024 Women’s Prize for Nonfiction. US author Barbara Kingsolver was the winner of last year’s prize for fiction for her novel Demon Copperhead (Faber).
