Book Links 2024 Award for Children’s Historical Fiction longlist announced

Book Links The Centre for Children’s Literature has announced the longlist for the 2024 Award for Children’s Historical Fiction.

The seven longlisted titles are:

  • Bidhi Galing (Big Rain) (Anita Heiss & Samantha Campbell, S&S)
  • The Fortune Maker (Catherine Norton, HarperCollins)
  • Inkflower (Suzy Zail, Walker Books)
  • Running with Ivan (Suzanne Leal, HarperCollins)
  • Secret Sparrow (Jackie French, HarperCollins)
  • Spies in the Sky (Beverley McWilliams, Pantera)
  • Two Sparrowhawks in a Lonely Sky (Rebecca Lim, A&U Children’s).

Established in 2020, this annual award aims ‘to increase the understanding and appreciation of history by children’ aged up to 14 years, with a prize of $1000 awarded to the winner.

The 2024 shortlist will be announced on 1 June, with the winner to be announced on 18 July.

Last year’s winner was Waiting for the Storks by Katrina Nannestad (ABC Books).
