MWF reveals Weinstein journalist Ronan Farrow as first guest

Melbourne Writers Festival (MWF) has announced that investigative journalist Ronan Farrow—whose reporting on allegations against Harvey Weinstein was central to the momentum of the #MeToo movement—will appear at this year’s festival, which runs from 24 August to 2 September.

Farrow will appear at an event on 30 August titled ‘Power, Abuse and Facing Facts’ alongside Australian journalist Tracey Spicer, where the pair will discuss ‘disclosure, courage and upheaval in reporting on sexual harassment and abuse’.

The conversation is a joint event facilitated by MWF and the Wheeler Centre, and is presented as part of the MEL&NYC events program, which will run from June to August 2018.

Farrow is an American journalist, lawyer and former government advisor. His work in the New Yorker exposing Weinstein’s predatory behaviour contributed to the New Yorker and the New York Times being awarded a Pulitzer Prize in Public Service in April this year. Farrow is also the author of War on Peace: The End of Diplomacy and the Decline of American Influence (William Collins), in which he argues that ‘American diplomacy is bleeding out’.

The full MWF 2018 program will be announced in July.
