Liverpool library wins UK Library of the Year award
In the UK, Liverpool Central Library has won the Library of the Year award, reports the Bookseller.
The Liverpool library was chosen from a shortlist of 10 for the award, which was open to public, prison, school and professional libraries.
The award judges noted the library’s major successes in increasing visitor numbers, running cultural programs relevant to the community, offering excellent opening hours and a good ratio of professional staff, as well as its success working with local businesses, including booksellers.
The judges said that Liverpool Central Library, which completed a major refurbishment in 2013, was ‘continuing on a strong upward trajectory and providing an example that other libraries could look to for inspiration’.
Run in partnership with reading charity the Reading Agency, the award attracted over 40 entries this year.
