Jameyson wins 2018 Lady Cutler Award

The School Magazine editor Karen Jameyson has won this year’s Lady Cutler Award, presented by the New South Wales branch of the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) for distinguished service to children’s literature.

Working at the School Magazine, Jameyson has liaised with publishers and publicists to select 40 books each year for the magazine’s Bookshelf section. Author and illustrator Tohby Riddle said Jameyson has brought ‘a keen and knowledgeable eye for quality’ to her job.

The CBCA NSW branch said: ‘Karen has devoted her life to the promotion and dissemination of great children’s literature. Through her editing, reviewing, advocacy, volunteer work and writing, Karen has enriched and supported the work of Australian children’s authors and illustrators and promoted their work internationally.’

International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) Australia president Robin Morrow said that Jameyson is a ‘quiet but strong’ member of the IBBY Australia committee, who offers ‘wise advice and practical hard work, as well as her deep knowledge of literature’.

Jameyson will be presented with the award at an event on 14 September, where author Bruce Pascoe will deliver the Maurice Saxby Oration. For more information, click here.
