Paramount acquires film rights to McKinty’s ‘The Chain’
Paramount Pictures has acquired the film rights to Adrian McKinty’s forthcoming novel The Chain (Hachette, July), reports Deadline.
Paramount executive Alex Jackson acquired the rights via Shane Salerno from The Story Factory and Creative Artists Agency. Salerno and The Story Factory will also produce the film. McKinty will earn a guaranteed ‘low-seven-figure payday’ if the film adaptation is made.
Due to be published next month, The Chain tells the story of Rachel, a divorced woman with cancer, who receives a phone call explaining that her 11-year-old daughter has been kidnapped. Her daughter will be released only when she kidnaps another child. She is now part of ‘The Chain’—‘a terrifying and meticulous chain letter-like kidnapping scheme that turns parents from victims into criminals’.
Publishing rights to The Chain have been sold in more than 30 countries.
