PRH announces inaugural recipients of Write It! program

Penguin Random House Australia has announced the inaugural recipients of its Write It! program for underrepresented writers.

Chosen from a shortlist of 12, the four recipients are:

• Annie McCann for ‘Napak Tilas’ (fiction for young readers)
• K L Webber for ‘Portrait of a Childless Couple’ (historical fiction)
• Ayesha Inoon for ‘The Girl Who Couldn’t Drive’ (contemporary fiction)
• sydney khoo for ‘The Spider and her Demons’ (YA fantasy).

The four recipients will receive a mentorship from PRH editors with the hope of publication, as well as a trip to Sydney to participate in a PRH Open House Day with Writing NSW on 26 July.

Senior editor Jess Owen said: ‘The response we received from budding authors across Australia has been phenomenal and we’re delighted the fellowship has captured a wonderful cross-section of Australian voices.

‘We were blown away by the support for this initiative; from writing groups, booksellers and our PRH authors, the enthusiasm from the publishing industry has underscored the hope we hold for initiatives such as Write It!’

The Write It! fellowship program ‘aims to find, nurture and develop unpublished writers across all genres with a focus on underrepresented sections of our community’.
