A&U acquires local rights to C S Pacat YA trilogy

Allen & Unwin (A&U) has acquired ANZ rights to C S Pacat’s YA trilogy ‘Dark Rise’.

In the trilogy, which is set in an alternate London, ‘the heroes and villains of long-forgotten war are being reborn, ushering in a dangerous new age of magic’.

A&U publisher Jodie Webster said Pacat is a ‘hugely talented, internationally acclaimed Australian author, and I am extremely delighted to welcome her to Allen & Unwin’. ‘I love everything about the “Dark Rise” trilogy: the premise, the characters and the world with its “Light” and “Dark” powers destined to be in deadly conflict, and the setting—an alternate London, sizzling with secrets, danger and deception.’

According to Publishers Weekly, HarperCollins acquired North American rights at auction for a sum ‘rumoured to be in the high-six-figure range’.

The ‘Dark Rise’ trilogy is Pacat’s debut YA work. Her adult trilogy ‘Captive Prince’ was published locally by Viking.

The first book in the series, titled Dark Rise, will be published in October 2021.
