SLNSW Children’s Library to open next week
The Children’s Library at the State Library of NSW (SLNSW) will open to the public for the first time on 12 October, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
The Children’s Library has ‘strictly no screens’ and will house up to 20,000 books on shelves that form a maze and line the walls. State librarian John Vallance said: ‘What we are trying to do with this library is remind children of the value of physical books. So we don’t have screens, we don’t have iPads.’
The library is also developing an automated recommendation service, which recommends books to children based on an assessment of their interests and reading ability.
As previously reported by Books+Publishing, earlier this year the SLNSW launched a fundraising appeal to raise $300,000 to help stock the new Children’s Library.
