ASA announces recipients of Takeaway Creatives grants
The Australian Society of Authors (ASA) has announced the 14 recipients of its $1000 Takeaway Creatives grants, funded by the Australia Council’s Covid-19 Resilience Fund.
The successful authors and illustrators are:
- Tristan Bancks
- Charlotte Barkla
- Ann Bolch
- Aleesah Darlison
- Daniel Gray-Barnett
- Sue Lawson
- Suzanne Leal
- Oliver Phommavanh
- Michael Pryor
- Alicia Rogerson
- Hayley Scrivenor
- Dee White
- Greg Woodland
- Michelle Worthington.
Due to the implementation of Covid-19 social distancing restrictions, the grants will enable individual creators to develop digital assets and to meet the cost of purchasing new equipment for virtual appearances at schools, libraries and festivals.
The recipients of the grants were chosen from over 90 applications. The ASA said the successful authors and illustrators ‘clearly demonstrated they have a solid plan, with impressive skills and insights which will be invaluable online’.
‘The impact on the businesses of authors and illustrators brought on by the pandemic is profound and far-reaching,’ said ASA professional development and events manager Jodie Spiteri-James. ‘They have all had to deal with learning new skills, sourcing new equipment and strategising a new way forward. We would dearly love to have passed on a grant to all applicants. Congratulations to the recipients.’
