Future of Writing NSW under threat, new government funding guidelines and more

The future of Writing NSW is under threat after the organisation missed out on multi-year Create NSW funding.

In pandemic-related news, the federal government has released guidelines for its $75m RISE and $35m Arts Sustainability funds, and last week it announced changes to the JobKeeper wage subsidy program.

More than a dozen Arab-Australian writers are auctioning signed books to support victims of last week’s explosion in Beirut. In other news, Simon Woodley has bought ALS Library Services and former Lonely Planet Asia Pacific marketing manager David Parritt has joined the ABA.

The winners of the WA Premier’s Book Awards have been announced, as have the shortlists for the NSW Premier’s History Awards, the Queensland Literary Awards and New Zealand’s Ngaio Marsh Award. Meanwhile, A&U has announced a new $25,000 crime fiction prize.

Overseas, HarperCollins’ global revenue was down 5% for the year to 30 June, while WHSmith is planning a restructure that could see 1500 jobs go.
