McClymont receives Danger Lifetime Achievement Award

Walkley Award–winning investigative journalist Kate McClymont is the winner of the 2020 Danger Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Bad: Sydney Crime Writers Festival.

‘Kate McClymont is a genuine investigative journalist. She’s told us more of what we didn’t know about Sydney in recent decades than anyone else,’ said the judging panel. ‘Despite the serious importance of her achievements, she’s renowned for her good nature and preparedness to share her experiences with others. Sometimes it’s as though the NSW Justice system has been largely a mopping-up operation for Kate’s journalism.’

McClymont is the author of He Who Must Be Obeid (Vintage) and Dead Man Walking: The murky world of Michael McGurk and Ron Medich (with Vanda Carson, Vintage), which is shortlisted for the festival’s Danger Prize.

‘It has been a privilege to be able to expose some of the dark undercurrents of crime and corruption which bubble along just below the surface,’ said McClymont. ‘Holding the powerful to account, whilst often nerve-wracking, is essential for any civilised democracy.’

The Danger Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented during the 2020 Bad: Sydney Crime Writers Festival, which runs 7–8 November.
