Scribe & Varuna Residency 2020 fellows announced

The recipients of the 2020 Scribe & Varuna Residency have been announced.

The writers and their projects are:

  • Lauren Fuge for ‘Voyagers’
  • Jessica White for ‘From the Miniature to the Momentous’.

The winners will complete a Varuna residency combined with an intensive mentorship with Scribe editors. The 2020 program, now in its second year, sought narrative nonfiction on climate change, nature and the environment in the Anthropocene.

Scribe senior editor David Golding said: ‘In a time of crisis, it remains important to look outside the present moment. Jessica White’s work looks back to the colonisation of Australia, and begins to deftly trace the intricate entanglings of gender, race, empire, and the environment that continue to affect us today, while Lauren Fuge examines humanity’s history of exploration and how it has driven the Anthropocene.

‘Stories like these are vital for our future, and we are excited to work with these authors in partnership with Varuna.’

For more information about the residency, see the Varuna website.
