Black Inc. acquires Clode’s book on ‘the hidden life of koalas’

Black Inc. has acquired world rights to biologist and natural history author Danielle Clode’s new book on ‘the hidden life of koalas’, via Jenny Darling & Associates.

Black Inc. publisher Sophy Williams said she’s ‘tremendously excited to work with Danielle on this groundbreaking book on the koala’, adding that the book is pitched at readers of Helen Macdonald, Sy Montgomery and Peter Wohlleben. ‘As she takes us into the forests and we enter “koala time”, this is going to be a revelatory journey into the daily lives of these iconic furry friends,’ said Williams. ‘The book will combine cutting-edge science with vivid and lyrical descriptions of life in the forest.’

‘Koalas are one of our best known animals and yet we know surprisingly little about them,’ said Clode. ‘I’m looking forward to working with Black Inc. to help debunk the myths and uncover the truth about this amazing marsupial.’

Clode’s previous books include Killers in Eden (Museum Victoria), which was made into an award-winning ABC TV natural history documentary; Voyages to the South Seas (MUP), which won the 2007 Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for nonfiction; and The Wasp and the Orchid (Picador), which was shortlisted for the National Biography Award in 2019. Her most recent book is last year’s In Search of the Woman who Sailed the World (Picador).

Black Inc. will publish Clode’s book in September 2022.
