Australians nominated for Carnegie, Kate Greenaway medals
Several Australians have been nominated for the 2022 Carnegie and Kate Greenaway medals for writing and illustration for children and young people, presented annually by the UK’s Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP).
Among the writers nominated for the Carnegie Medal for an outstanding book are Shirley Marr for her middle-grade novel A Glasshouse of Stars (Puffin) and YA author Krystal Sutherland for her fantasy novel House of Hollow (Penguin). In total, 76 books were nominated for the Carnegie Medal.
Seventy-two books have been nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal for distinguished illustration. Among the nominees are Maxine Beneba Clarke for When We Say Black Lives Matter (Hachette) and Armin Greder for Diamonds (A&U).
The longlists will be announced on 16 February 2022, the shortlists on 16 March and the winners on 16 June.
