200,000 attend first in-person Beijing fair since 2019

Around 200,000 visitors attended the 29th Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF), which ran from 15–18 June, reports Publishing Perspectives.

This year’s fair was the first in-person event since 2019, when there were more than 320,000 visitors. Organisers said there were more than 2500 exhibitors, showcasing more than 200,000 titles. Of those exhibitors, 60% were from outside China, representing 56 regions and countries. At the last pre-pandemic fair of 2019, there were over 2600 exhibitors from 95 countries and regions.

According to BookDao, over 2000 copyright trade agreements were made at the fair.

Fair director Liying Lin said, ‘many new forms of publishing content and formats, including online literature and new publishing technologies, have made their debut at this year’s BIBF’. ‘The establishment of the Online Publishing Pavilion, international conferences and exchanges demonstrate the connection between publishing and technology,’ said Lin. ‘The new venue was buzzing with meetings and colleagues catching up. Very excited to hear of so many deals and partnerships struck during the fair.’
