Bookshop in Kerang to close

The Little Blue Book Shop in Kerang, Victoria, has announced that it will close at the end of March.

Bookseller Amanda Day told Books+Publishing: ‘The business was doing okay until the area flooded in October 2022. This slowed all tourist movement. People also had less money to spend, and the mood in town was less-than-Christmassy. Then the interest rate rises slowed spending for 2023. Sales were down in all months.’

Originally opening in September 2020, the bookshop offered a pay-as-you-go book subscription service, which will be delivered for the last time in February, and it had been supplying Kerang Technical High School with book orders. The deadline for final school orders passed last Friday.

Day also organised a monthly book club at the bookshop, which she will continue to run at an undetermined location after the shop closure.
