Established in 1994, the Ena Noël Award is awarded to young Australian emerging writers and illustrators under the age of 35 who have had books published in the two years prior to the award closing date. This is the first year the award will be presented to both an author and illustrator, after IBBY announced the change to two prizes last year, in recognition of the importance of visual literacy and the role that illustration plays in complementing the textual narrative in children’s and young people’s literature.

The winners will be announced on International Children’s Book Day, 2 April 2024.

The previous Ena Noël Award was presented to Gary Lonesborough for his debut YA novel The Boy from the Mish (A&U).

More details about the award is available on the IBBY Australia website.
