CBCA announces restructure
The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has announced it will restructure the organisation from November this year.
The restructure, which has been under discussion since 2009, was formally agreed to by the CBCA national council at its 2011 AGM and will involve the implementation of a new board of management ‘to replace the rotating administrative national executive’, said the CBCA in a statement.
While the CBCA admitted there were ‘numerous positive aspects’ to its present system, in which the national executive rotates between states every two years, it said the national council has ‘agreed that it is time to move forward and introduce an administrative model, which better serves the [CBCA’s] branches and national organisation in terms of continuity, advocacy and strategic planning’.
The CBCA also plans to develop a new constitution but said the
‘key messages and established aims and responsibilities of the
organisation will remain the same’.
At the 2012 AGM in November the organisation will establish a board made up of eight branch representatives and one representative each from the Awards Foundation, Reading Time and the Lu Rees Archives.
‘It is the Board’s duty to nominate a Chairperson,’ said the statement. ‘A board support team will comprise an executive officer and an accountant.’
In addition, ‘CBCA subcommittees/working parties will be established to maintain the various workings of the organisation’, such as the CBCA website and merchandise, ‘and these subcommittees will report to the Board’.
The CBCA said the organisation’s book awards and national conference will continue to be run by branch management committees on a rotational system.
‘A working paper will be drawn up to reflect these structural changes,
and it will form the basis for developing our new Constitution,’ said the organisation.
