New owners for Dymocks Newmarket
The Dymocks store in Newmarket, New Zealand, has been sold to new owners, reports Beattie’s Book Blog.
According to Publishers Association of New Zealand president Kevin Chapman, publishers were informed earlier this month that the store had been sold to Orchard Holdings and would cease to trade as Dymocks Newmarket on 21 September. Orchard Holdings is owned by Jeanee and Malcolm Hughes, who also own the Birkenhead Paper Plus store.
The sale follows the rebranding of the former Dymocks stores in Queensgate, Mt Eden and Tauranga earlier this year, which left just the one Dymocks outlet operating in New Zealand. Dymocks general manager Steve Cox told Bookseller+Publisher in June that while Dymocks is ‘focussed on the Australian market’ and is ‘actively opening new stores’ in Australia, he said Dymocks would ‘assess’ the situation if an opportunity came up to open another store in New Zealand.
