Dylan Thomas Prize 2024 shortlist announced

In the UK, the Swansea University has announced the shortlist of the 2024 Dylan Thomas Prize.

The shortlisted titles, chosen from a longlist announced in January, are:

  • A Spell of Good Things (Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀, A&U Canongate)
  • Small Worlds (Caleb Azumah Nelson, Penguin General UK)
  • The Glutton (A K Blakemore, Granta)
  • Bright Fear (Mary Jean Chan, Faber Poetry)
  • Local Fires (Joshua Jones, Parthian)
  • Biography of X (Catherine Lacey, Granta).

Named after the Swansea-born writer, the Dylan Thomas Prize celebrates his ‘39 years of creativity and productivity’ and is awarded for the ‘best published literary work’ in the English language, written by an author aged 39 or under. The winner receives £20,000 ($38,600) and will be announced on 16 May.

The winner of last year’s Dylan Thomas Prize was Arinze Ifeakandu for God’s Children Are Little Broken Things (W&N).
