Vale Kate Callingham

Arts worker Kate Callingham died in an accident on Saturday 27 April, aged 39.

Among various roles, Callingham was a steering committee member for the Blak & Bright festival, a development coordinator for the Melbourne Writers Festival and executive director/co-CEO of the Emerging Writers Festival from 2013 to 2016.

Callingham’s family writes:

‘Kate Callingham was a beloved partner, mother, daughter and friend, and a keen-minded leader in the arts and cultural life in Melbourne.

‘She was widely respected and beloved for her clear moral compass, adventurous spirit and formidable, level-headed, good sense.

‘Kate was loved for her kindness, easy laughter and always being the most capable person in the room.’

Those who knew Callingham are invited to donate to a memorial fund organised by her friends, who said ‘we will work with Kate’s family to ensure it goes to a wonderful organisation in her name’.
