BookUp 2024 first guests announced

The Australian Publishers Association (APA) has announced this year’s BookUp conference will take place on 7 August at State Library Victoria in Melbourne, with tickets now on sale.

Thames & Hudson’s Bianca Jafari, a member of the conference programming committee, said this year’s BookUp will be ‘more practical, more informative and more innovative than ever’. ‘We’ve expanded the program to include more than just keynotes and panels—you can expect an author–publisher in-conversation and a marketing case study covering one of the biggest titles on the shelves,’ said Jafari. ‘We’ll continue the discussion on AI, learning about how we could and shouldn’t be using it in the workplace; look at best practice HR—including diversity, hiring and retention; and keep you updated on the latest reading and data trends. It’s a jam-packed program that will set the new standard across the publishing industry.’

The APA has announced early details about several sessions, including a keynote from BookNet Canada director Lauren Stewart on how to use data strategically, which will be followed by a Q&A with APA head of product and supply chain Cat Colwell; a panel on AI and publishing, looking at opportunities and risks; and panel on working with schools, featuring educators and learning experts discussing the latest research on classroom learning and how publishers can support teachers to engage students with diverse learning needs.

More information about the 2024 BookUp program is available on the APA website.
