Twyford-Moore appointed EWF director
The Emerging Writers’ Festival (EWF) has announced that Sam Twyford-Moore will take over the role of festival director from Lisa Dempster, who announced in April that she would be stepping down.
‘A writer and presenter with several festivals and events under his belt, Sam Twyford-Moore has worked for the NSW Writers’ Centre since 2010,’ said an EWF statement. ‘He has lectured and tutored at the University of Technology in Sydney and is also the founder and host of the popular ‘The Rereaders’ podcast. Sam Twyford-Moore served on the Program Advisory Committee of the EWF in 2012 and has most recently completed work on the EWF’s Sydney Roadshow, a partner event with NSW Writers’ Centre, which will shortly take place on Saturday 3 November.’
‘Sam has already established himself as a passionate leader in the emerging writers’ community in Sydney and an exciting programmer who will deliver the kind of innovative events that our organization specialises in providing to a national audience,’ said EWF chair Mary Masters of the appointment. ‘The EWF is now a serious event on Australia’s literary calendar; the physical and digital reach of the organisation has grown exponentially in recent years and we look forward to this expansion and awareness continuing under Sam’s leadership. We are confident that we have found the next big thing.’
Twyford-Moore has contributed to publications including The UTS Anthology, Meanjin, Overland, Wet Ink, The Reader, Seizure, The Penguin Plays Rough Book of Short Stories, the Rumpus, and the Los Angeles Review of Books and is a regular reviewer for the Australian.
He said in the statement that the EWF had ‘helped me in my own writing career—giving me a real chance to extend my professional reach’.
‘I couldn’t be happier to now be in a position to provide similar pathways for others,’ he said. ‘As festival director, I want to be looking outward, trying to find the writers out there working hard to establish their literary identities and communities and to give them as much of a helping hand as we possibly can.’
As previously reported by Bookseller+Publisher, Dempster will take up the role of festival director of the Melbourne Writers Festival when she finishes in her role at EWF.
The 2013 EWF will run from 23 May to 2 June.
