Hager wins 2013 NZ Beatson Fellowship

The New Zealand Society of Authors (NZSA) has announced that Mandy Hager is the winner of the 2013 Beatson Fellowship. The fellowship, worth NZ$7000 (A$5500), also gives the recipient the option of a month’s residency in a cottage at Foxton Beach in the Manawatu-Wanganui region of New Zealand’s North Island. Hager writes a range of different genres, including YA and adult novels, nonfiction resources, scripts and shorter fiction, reports Booksellers New Zealand. Her book The Crossing, the first in the ‘Blood of the Lamb’ trilogy, won the 2010 New Zealand Post Children’s Book Award for Young Adult Fiction. Hager will use the fellowship to work on a new YA novel called Dear Vincent. Shortlisted for the award were Pip Adam, Breton Dukes, Stephanie Johnson, Christine Leunens, Felicity Price and Tina Shaw. The 2012 recipient was Catherine Chidgey, who used the fellowship to work on her new novel The Fugitive Image.
