OzAsia Weekend of Words, Queenscliffe Literary Festival programs announced
Programs have been announced for the OzAsia Festival’s Weekend of Words and the Queenscliffe Literary Festival.
Weekend of Words
The OzAsia Festival’s Weekend of Words will be held on 8–10 November at the Adelaide Festival Centre.
The program of 24 free events, featuring more than 35 Asian and Asian Australian creatives, includes events with Australian authors Siang Lu, Benjamin Law and Qin Qin; journalists Sarah Malik and Beverley Wang; and comedians Lawrence Leung, Jennifer Wong and Jason Chong. International guests include Singaporean comic artist Benjamin Chee, Singaporean author Wayne Rée, Sri Lankan author Vajra Chandrasekera, and South Korean author/translators Bora Chung and Anton Hur.
Festival curator Sami Shah said this year’s festival ‘promises to explore themes of identity, power, culture, community, gender, sexuality, and more’. ‘I invite you to engage, reflect, and enjoy the festival and the vibrant conversations it brings!’
Queenscliffe Literary Festival
The Queenscliffe Literary Festival will be held in Queenscliff, Victoria on 18–27 October.
Organisers announced that the 2024 program features over 70 guests, including Tim Winton, Alexis Wright, Pip Williams, Candice Fox, Bruce Pascoe, Christian White, Rick Morton, Tony Birch, Louise Milligan, Nardi Simpson, Sara M Saleh, Thomas Mayo, Josh Bornstein, Clare Wright, Ben Shewry, Rosie Batty, Judith Lucy, Kaz Cooke, Jeff Sparrow and Hana Assafiri.
Festival director Elizabeth McCarthy said: ‘The festival was founded on a deep passion for books, ideas and conversations, and today that passion burns brighter than ever. I hope that everyone finds plenty in this program of events to enjoy, chew over, be challenged and inspired by. As a life-long passionate reader, I’ve long cherished how literary festivals take the introverted experience of reading and make it a community experience. Individuals can meet together and explore, interrogate and celebrate stories and ideas. Our 10th birthday program is a rich feast that I hope will stimulate many ideas and conversations across our community, long after the festival winds down.’
