Canberra Writers Festival 2024 program announced

Canberra Writers Festival (CWF) has announced its program for the 2024 festival, to be held on 23–27 October, featuring over 100 guests.

Among guests speaking at the event are Tim Winton, Charlotte Wood, Robbie Arnott, Anita Heiss, Christos Tsiolkas, James Jiang, Melissa Lucashenko, Nardi Simpson, Bri Lee and Markus Zusak. Local Canberra-based authors include Chris Hammer, David Lindenmayer, Frank Bongiorno, Inga Simpson and Theodore Ell.

Organisers said 79 events will take place over the festival, with 13 masterclasses and 66 in-conversation events planned, under the festival’s ongoing theme, ‘Power Politics Passion’.

Political debates and conversations will feature during the festival, with events featuring Lucia Osborne-Crowley, Rick Morton, Josh Bornstein, Amy McQuire, Barrie Cassidy and David Pocock, as well as Fred C Trump III, among others.

Queerstories has also joined this year’s program, with the festival edition of the LGBTQI+ true stories event to be curated by Maeve Marsden and feature five storytellers.

CWF artistic director Beejay Silcox said: ‘Whether you’re passionate about culture, the wonders of language, the environment, crime and justice, sexual politics,  journalistic integrity or social policy—or you just love a damn good story—this year’s festival has something to offer. We have ghost stories and geopolitics; playwrights and poets; grand historical epics and intimate family histories; quiet novels of contemplation and panel discussions about the fate of modern democracy. And a magnificent feast of fiction! The whole spectrum of national storytelling is here.’

Further details about the 2024 program are available on the CWF website.
