Nakata Brophy Prize 2024 shortlist announced

Overland journal has announced the shortlist for the 2024 Nakata Brophy Prize for the best poem by a young Indigenous writer.
The shortlisted works, selected by judges Karen Wyld and Eugenia Flynn, are:
- ‘Narrowboats’ by Sharleigh Crittenden
- ‘Miwi’ by Georgia Malu
- ‘Once, as it is’ by Bebe Oliver
- ‘Dawning in the Rivulet of My Father’s Mourning’ by Yasmin Smith
- ‘gather’ by Mia Thom.
The winner, who receives $5000, publication in Overland, and an optional writing residency at Trinity College, will be announced in late October. The Nakata Brophy Prize alternates between short fiction and poetry each year, with this year’s prize for the best poem up to 88 lines by an Indigenous writer under 35.
The previous winner was Jasmin McGaughey for ‘Sweet Anticipation’.
