‘The Ministry of Time’ named Dymocks Book of the Year

Kaliane Bradley’s novel, The Ministry of Time (Sceptre), has been named the 2024 Dymocks Book of the Year.

On accepting the award, Bradley said: ‘There isn’t a vote of confidence that I could want more. I think booksellers are the lifeblood of our literary ecosystem … Thank you for taking this book into your heart.’

A British-Cambodian writer and editor residing in London, Bradley has written short stories for literary journals such as Electric Literature, Catapult, and Somesuch Stories. The Ministry of Time is her debut novel.

Dymocks booksellers around Australia vote for their favourite read for the award. In a statement Dymocks said its booksellers voted for The Ministry of Time for its ‘exceptional writing and genre-bending brilliance’.

‘Weaving together historical fiction, romance, scifi, and more, the novel promises to enthral a wide range of readers,’ said Dymocks.

Dymocks Sydney bookseller Jon Page said he was ‘hooked from the very first page,’ while Dymocks Rouse Hill owner Lynne Allister called the book ‘a wonderfully original and inventive story.’

Dymocks said it would be stocking an exclusive edition of the book.

The award was announced at an event at the State Library of New South Wales on Thursday 21 November.
