Australians are ready to buy, sell, and talk AI at LBF
Gregory Messina is an American literary agent based in Paris who will be representing more than one Australian author at LBF this year.
He’s been attending LBF every year since 2006, when he first started in publishing. ‘Both Frankfurt and London are necessary to attend when it comes to selling rights,’ he told Think Australian. ‘I believe that in-person meetings are essential to this business, and so I make it a priority to attend.’ But while London is a ‘priority book fair’, Messina says he’s ‘starting to get concerned that fewer international editors are attending, and the ones that do are staying for a shorter amount of time’.
In this issue of Think Australian, we profile several of those publishers, agents and other industry members who are making the (long!) trip to London from Australia. All expect to be having conversations about (no surprises here) AI, but each have their own reason to attend. Find out more about them here.
You can also read about the fiction and nonfiction titles attending publishers have singled out to spotlight at the fair, catch up on the latest Australian award winners and local acquisitions, find out how Australian publishers fared in this market over Christmas – and what trends they expect in the year ahead.
If you are attending, we wish you a successful LBF. (If not, we hope you enjoy reading about those who are!)
