ABA announces National Bookshop Day promotions
The Australian Booksellers Association (ABA) has announced a number of promotions to support National Bookshop Day on 10 August.
The ABA will be running a national competition calling for people to vote for their favourite bookshop, with everyone who votes going into the draw to win $500 worth of Australian Book Vouchers. The voting period runs from 13 July to 5 August and the winning bookshop will be announced on National Bookshop Day.
Promoting the competition will be Australia’s Favourite Bookshop ambassador Markus Zusak, who will be starring in a social media clip asking book lovers to vote for their favourite bookshop. The ABA will also supply DIY point of sale material and a QR code so that people can vote on their mobile devices.
In another promotion, four publishers will be producing free mini-editions of books for booksellers to distribute on National Bookshop Day. The books, which are designed to attract new readers and reward regular customers, are: Amazing Experiences (Lonely Planet), Rain Queen (Katherine Scholes, Penguin), The Dig Tree (Sarah Murgatroyd, Text), Secret Kingdom Activity Book and Sea Question Activity Book (both Hachette).
The ABA has also enlisted the support of National Bookshop Day ambassador William McInnes, who will launch National Bookshop Day and be available for media interviews in the lead-up to the event. McInnes has filmed a number of social media clips at the Sun Bookshop in Yarraville to promote National Bookshop Day. You can view one of the clips here.
Booksellers can access more information about National Bookshop Day, including media release templates and other marketing material, on the ABA website.
