Affirm to publish Gilchrist autobiography

Affirm Press has acquired the rights to publish former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist’s illustrated autobiography.

The self-titled book, which follows Gilchrist’s 2008 autobiography True Colours (Pan Macmillan), will feature ‘hundreds of never before seen photographs and re-production memorabilia from Adam’s outstanding international cricket career’.

‘Having just spent a week with Gilly, going through a cellar full of memories and hearing his stories, I can assure you this is going to be a cracker of a book,’ said Affirm Press publishing director Martin Hughes.

The publisher has announced an initial print-run of 60,000 copies, which will be published in hardback in October.

‘It’s a major coup for a small publisher,’ Affirm Press sales and marketing manager Keiran Rogers told Books+Publishing.

Rogers said Affirm was able to attract high-profile authors ‘because we can offer a much better editorial and sales relationship as a smaller publisher with less authors, yet still deliver on sales quantities due to our unique sales and distribution set-up’. As previously reported by Books+Publishing, Affirm announced in 2014 that it would represent itself for all centralised book retail accounts, with Hardie Grant to service accounts to individual bookstores, and Random House to distribute all titles.
