A&U celebrates 100 years of ‘Allen & Unwin’

Allen & Unwin has celebrated the centenary of its name by publishing a ‘small hardback history’ called A Hundred Years of Allen & Unwin 1914-2014.

The book, written by A&U chairman Patrick Gallagher and executive director Paul Donovan, is not for sale but is being distributed as a gift for ‘authors and staff, booksellers, media and friends’.

Allen & Unwin opened on 4 August 1914 as George Allen & Unwin, after Stanley Unwin bought a publishing company called George Allen & Company. The company published its first book in Australia in 1978 and became Australia’s largest independent publisher after a management buyout in 1990.
