People’s Choice Queensland Book of the Year shortlist announced
The State Library of Queensland (SLQ) has announced the shortlist for the Courier-Mail People’s Choice Queensland Book of the Year award, part of the 2014 Queensland Literary Awards (QLA) program.
The shortlisted titles are:
- My Brother-but-One (T M Clark, Mira)
- Walking on Trampolines (Frances Whiting, Macmillan)
- My Island Homicide (Catherine Titasey, UQP)
- Atomic City (Sally Breen, HarperCollins)
- Jacks and Jokers (Matthew Condon, UQP)
- Lingering Doubts: Going inside Brisbane’s Arcade Murder (Deb Drummond & Janis Teunis, Copyright Publishing)
- How to Do a Liver Transplant: Stories from my Surgical Life (Kellee Slater, NewSouth)
- The Power of Bones (Keelen Mailman, A&U).
The $5000 People’s Choice Queensland Book of the Year is awarded to an outstanding book by a Queensland author. The public can vote on their favourite book until 21 November. The winner will be announced at the QLA ceremony in December.
The shortlist for the other categories in the 2014 QLAs will be announced in November. As previously reported by Books+Publishing, the SLQ is running the awards for the first time in 2014, taking over from the volunteer-led QLAs, which were established in 2012 following the axing of the Queensland Premier’s Literary Awards.
