MWF launches ‘30 Under 30’ crowdfunding project

The Melbourne Writers Festival (MWF) has launched a crowdfunding project to help send young Melbourne writers to international and domestic literary festivals.

The ‘30 Under 30’ project, which coincides with the 30th year of MWF, is aiming to raise $30,000 within a month, which will contribute toward flights, accommodation and travel per diems for the writers. The project will also include events at this year’s festival, which runs from 20-30 August.

In a statement, MWF director Lisa Dempster said the project aims to ‘shine a spotlight’ on upcoming literary talent. ‘Melbourne is home to some amazing young writers and we want the world to know about them,’ said Dempster. ‘But as we all know, starting creative careers can be tough. That’s why we want to make sure Melbourne is supporting its next generation of writers.’
