HarperCollins announces #LoveOzYA anthology

HarperCollins has announced it will publish a young adult anthology in May 2017 inspired by the #LoveOzYA campaign, featuring 10 short stories by a selection of Australian YA authors.

Writer and youth literature advocate Danielle Binks will edit and contribute a short story to the collection.

Binks told Books+Publishing she was delighted to be working on a ‘passion project’. ‘I can’t think of a better way to continue the celebration of our youth literature than with this anthology of short stories featuring some of its most remarkable authors,’ said Binks.

Binks said she was particularly excited to be working with short stories, noting it was a format not often seen in the YA market.

HarperCollins Children’s Books publisher Chren Byng said, ‘We’ve been so excited to see the #LoveOzYA movement gaining momentum, and we’re thrilled to be working with Danielle to bring this collection of brilliant Australian voices together.’

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, the grassroots campaign #LoveOzYA began in June this year with the aim of promoting Australian YA books in a market dominated by US titles. In September, Binks was elected to the #LoveOzYA campaign committee, along with Bec Kavanagh, Adele Walsh, Amelia Lush and Ambelin Kwaymullina in the ‘rolling author’ position.
