KL airport launches ebook library

In Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur International Airport has launched a new ebook library using ‘world first’ technology, reports the Star. The library—a partnership between the airport, the government and ebookstore eSentral—operates through 40 ebook beacons placed throughout the airport, which communicate with passengers’ smartphones. Currently, the library offers over 800 titles in English, Bahasa Malaysia (Malay) and Chinese, with passengers able to download up to two ebooks, which will be stored on their devices for two days. ‘This Bluetooth beacon programming simplifies the whole process for ebook borrowing,’ said Syed Munawar Syed Mustar, CEO of the government’s books agency Perbadanan Kota Buku. ‘With this pioneering facility, we hope KLIA can be a model to the rest of the world.’
