‘Financial Times’ Business Book of the Year winner announced

In the UK, Sebastian Mallaby’s The Man Who Knew (Bloomsbury) has won the 2016 Financial Times and McKinsey Business Book of the Year award. Chosen from a shortlist of six, Mallaby’s biography of former US federal reserve chairman Alan Greenspan is the first biography to win the prize. Financial Times editor and chair of judges Lionel Barber said the book is an ‘impressive work of scholarship’. ‘It’s a masterpiece of political economy and, above all, it’s a great and enjoyable read,’ said Barber. Mallaby will receive a £30,000 (A$50,500) cash prize, with each of the five other shortlisted titles to receive £10,000 (A$16,835). Financial Times and McKinsey also presented writer Nora Rosendahl with the £15,000 Bracken Bower Prize for the best business book proposal by a writer under the age of 35. Rosendahl’s proposal ‘Mental Meltdown’ will analyse ‘increasing rates of burnout, exhaustion and stress, particularly among millennials’. The Financial Times and McKinskey Business Book of the Year Award is presented annually to the book with ‘the most compelling and enjoyable insight into modern business issues’. For more information about the award, visit the Financial Times website here.
