Fury awarded 2017 Kat Muscat Fellowship

Melbourne writer Fury has been awarded the 2017 Kat Muscat Fellowship to work on a play ‘investigating the relationship between lesbians and gay men during the early AIDS crisis’.

Fury said winning the Kat Muscat Fellowship was a ‘bittersweet joy’. ‘I believe that this project is something that would have delighted her. I am honoured that the Fellowship committee thinks so, too. I am keen to do her proud.’

Jessica Alice, chair of the Kat Muscat Legacy Projects Custodial Committee, said Fury’s project ‘examines a devastating and complex crisis from a place of great compassion’. ‘The Custodial Committee was impressed by the nuance and scope of the application, which emerged clearly in a strong field of 39 young writers and editors. We are delighted that the Kat Muscat Fellowship will support a challenging work that so completely aligns with Kat’s values of defiance, feminism and empathy.’

The annual Kat Muscat Fellowship was set up by Express Media in honour of former Voiceworks editor Kat Muscat. It offers professional development up to the value of $3000 for an editorial project or work of writing by a young female-identifying or non-binary person.

Fellows are selected by the Custodial Committee of the Kat Muscat Legacy Projects, which includes members of Express Media’s board and staff, the Muscat family and community members.
