Indie Book Awards 2018 shortlist announced

Leading Edge Books has announced the 2018 Indie Book Awards shortlist, for the best Australian books published in 2017.

The shortlisted titles in each category are:

Fiction

Nonfiction

  • Working Class Man (Jimmy Barnes, HarperCollins)
  • The Museum of Words (Georgia Blain, Scribe)
  • Saga Land (Richard Fidler & Kari Gislason, ABC Books)
  • The Trauma Cleaner (Sarah Krasnostein, Text)

Debut fiction

Young adult

Children’s

Illustrated nonfiction

  • Maggie’s Recipe For Life (Maggie Beer & Ralph Martins, S&S)
  • Cornersmith: Salads and Pickles (Alex Elliott-Howery & Sabine Spindler, Murdoch Books)
  • Native: Art & Design with Australian Plants (Kate Herd & Jela Ivankovic-Waters, Thames & Hudson)
  • Beyond the Rock (Janelle McCulloch, Echo)

Chosen from a longlist announced in December, the shortlisted titles were voted on by independent booksellers from around the country, who are also members of Leading Edge Books. Panels of judges (indie booksellers and avid readers) will choose the winners in the six categories, and independent booksellers will vote to choose their overall Indie ‘Book of the Year’ from the 24 shortlisted titles.

The winners will be announced on 26 March at the 2018 Leading Edge Books conference in Hobart. Now in its 10th year, the awards ‘recognise and celebrate independent booksellers as the number one supporters of Australian authors’.
