Bradley wins 2012 Pascall Prize

The 2012 Pascall Prize has been awarded to author and newspaper and magazine writer James Bradley.

Bradley was awarded the $15,000 prize, which was judged by previous winners Geordie Williamson (2011) and Alison Croggon (2009), during this year’s Sydney Writers’ Festival.

‘Beyond his keen, insightful and always entertaining reviews there is a sense of larger cultural phenomena being addressed. His reviews are postings from the frontline of a revolution,’ said the judges.

Bradley is an award-winning novelist who reviews books for the Australian, the Age and the Sydney Morning Herald. His critical writing has appeared in the Australian Book Review, the Australian Literary Review, Griffith Review, the Monthly, Heat and Meanjin. His writing has also featured in international publications.

The prize was presented to Bradley following the session ‘Witicism and Criticism…does Australia’s creative community take itself too bloody seriously?’ at the festival on Saturday 19 May.

The Pascall Prize is named after Geraldine Pascall and is awarded to an ‘Australian critic whose work over the previous 12 to 18 months has contributed significantly to public debate, appreciation, enjoyment and understanding of an area of the arts’.
