UK publishers, booksellers join in Black Friday promotion

A number of UK publishers and booksellers offered special promotions to coincide with Black Friday sales in the US last week, reports the Bookseller. This is the first time UK publishers have participated in the annual promotion, which takes place on the day after Thanksgiving and signals the beginning of Christmas shopping. The Bookseller reports that Penguin UK offered customers 50% off books through its website for one day, while Osprey and Bloomsbury both launched 25% off promotions on their websites. Amazon also displayed prominent Black Friday deals on its UK website, including a £30 discount on its Kindle Fire tablets. While UK booksellers Waterstones and WH Smith chose not to run specific Black Friday deals, they have launched ongoing weekly Christmas promotions on books and ereading devices.
