Riverbend opens pop-up store
Independent Brisbane bookseller Riverbend Books has opened a temporary pop-up store in the same street as the well-known bookstore.
Riverbend owner Suzy Wilson told Bookseller+Publisher that the store, which is located on Oxford Street in Bulima, will be open until Christmas. ‘I employ a young girl in the Teahouse whose Dad owned the real estate business opposite the cinemas,’ said Wilson. ‘He was moving out on 6 December and offered me the space until Christmas. I know that ten thousand people per week visit the cinemas in the holidays so I thought it might work.’
Wilson said that she is stocking the store with sale and remainder stock, and reported that ‘the first couple of days have been okay—nothing exciting but still worth it’. Riverbend is still working on the signage for the pop-up store and is also considering adding a coffee cart.
‘I held a pop-up shop in James Street, New Farm, earlier in the year, which was very successful,’ said Wilson of the decision to open the pop-up store. ‘So ever since I have kept my eyes open for further possibilities.’
As previously reported by Bookseller+Publisher, independent Melbourne bookseller Readings opened a pop-up store close to its Carlton store last year.
