Borders to reopen in Singapore

Borders bookstore will reopen in the Singapore suburb of Jurong by the end of the year, reports Yahoo News. Book retailer Popular Holdings recently announced that it had acquired the Borders Singapore brand in 2012. The announcement came just after Popular Holdings announced the closure of its lifestyle bookstore Prologue in the ION Orchard mall on 25 August. The last Borders store to operate in Singapore was at Parkway Parade. The store closed in September 2011, a month after the flagship Wheelock Place store shut down due to a rental dispute. Borders Singapore was placed under judicial management, a form of administration, around the same time. The Singapore outlets were not part of the administration of parent company REDgroup Retail, which resulted in the closure and sale of the Australian and New Zealand outlets in 2011, but court documents claimed that the Singapore outlets suffered as a result of the administration.
