Ned Kelly Awards 2013 shortlists announced
The shortlists for this year’s Ned Kelly Awards for crime writing have been announced.
The shortlisted titles in the full-length book categories are:
Best fiction
- The Holiday Murders (Robert Gott, Scribe)
- Web of Deceit (Katherine Howell, Macmillan)
- Blackwattle Creek (Geoffrey McGeachin, Viking)
- I Hear the Sirens in the Street (Adrian McKinty, Serpent’s Tail)
- Silent Valley (Malla Nunn, Macmillan)
Best first fiction
- The Marmalade Files (Steve Lewis & Chris Uhlmann, HarperCollins)
- The Midnight Promise (Zane Lovitt, Text)
- The Robbers (Paul Anderson, Hardie Grant)
- Murder with the Lot (Sue Williams, Text)
- The Richmond Conspiracy (Andrew Grimes, Text)
True crime
- The People Smuggler (Robin De Crespigny, Viking)
- Every Parent’s Nightmare (Belinda Hawkins, A&U)
- The Devil’s Cinema (Steve Lillebuen, Viking)
- Dead by Friday (Derek Pedley, Wakefield Press)
- Eugenia (Mark Tedeschi, S&S).

The winners of this year’s awards will be announced on 7 September during the Brisbane Writers Festival (BWF). As previously reported by Books+Publishing, this is the first year that the awards will be presented during the BWF. In previous years, the awards have been presented as part of the Melbourne Writers Festival, which is held in August and September.
