‘Reading Hour’ to take place tomorrow
The 2013 Reading Hour will take place around the country tomorrow, 24 August, from 5-6pm.
The initiative, which promotes the idea that everyone can benefit from reading for 10 minutes a day or an hour a week, is part of the Love2Read campaign and was first held last year during the National Year of Reading.
The Reading Hour will be officially launched by ambassador Tim Ferguson tonight at Federation Square in Melbourne, where he will read from Cowzat!, an interactive ebook that is based on the picture book by Bruce Atherton and Ben Redlich (Windy Hollow). Cowzat! will also be available to download for free from the Love2Read website on 24 August.
Authors and illustrators including Andy Griffiths, Sally Rippin, Aki Fukuoka, Morris Gleitzman and Ann James will participate in a Reading Hour event at the Melbourne Writers Festival on Saturday, and many libraries around the country will hold special events to mark the occasion.
