A&U announces senior appointments for Gilliatt, Hines

Allen & Unwin has announced two senior appointments to the business.

Tom Gilliatt, Pan Macmillan’s director of nonfiction publishing and digital-only imprint Momentum, has been appointed publishing director of Allen & Unwin, and will join the company in January.

Gilliatt has worked at Pan Macmillan since 1995 and has previously held positions as nonfiction publisher and editor.

Allen & Unwin CEO Robert Gorman said in a statement: ‘Tom’s track-record speaks for itself. He is an immensely talented publisher with a superb understanding of what makes books both successful and significant.’

Allen & Unwin has also promoted Sue Hines, publishing director for the past nine years, to group publishing director.

Allen & Unwin said in the statement that Hines ‘has been instrumental in Allen & Unwin’s acquisition of Murdoch Books and has worked closely with the Murdoch staff to set up and continue Murdoch’s proud publishing tradition’. ‘Sue’s vast experience and publishing savvy always stand us in good stead,’ said Gorman.
