YABBAs 2013 winners announced
The winners of the 2013 Young Australian’s Best Book Awards (YABBAs) have been announced.
The winning titles are:
Picture Storybooks
- Pooka (Carol Chataway & Nina Rycroft, Working Title Press)
Fiction Younger Readers
- The Golden Door (Emily Rodda, Omnibus)
Fiction Older Readers
- The 26-Storey Treehouse (Andy Griffiths, illus by Terry Denton, Pan)
Fiction Years 7-9
- After (Morris Gleitzman, Viking).
The awards were presented at Haileybury Castlefield in Brighton, Victoria, on 6 November. The Graham Davey Citation, presented in memory of former YABBA president Graham Davey, was awarded for the first time at the ceremony, with Nick Bland receiving the honour for The Very Cranky Bear (Scholastic).
Among the authors present at the event were Felice Arena, Terry Denton, Hazel Edwards, Andy Griffiths, Nicky Johnston, Claire Saxby and Gabrielle Wang.
The YABBAs are Victoria’s annual children’s choice awards. The winners of this year’s awards were selected from the Reading & Enjoying Australian Literature (REAL) Awards shortlist, which also acts as a shortlist for the children’s choice awards in the Australian Capital Territory (COOL Awards), New South Wales (KOALAs) and the Northern Territory (KROC Awards).
