New website dedicated to NZ books launched

A new website designed to showcase New Zealand books was launched earlier this month.

NZ Booklovers features reviews of New Zealand and international books, as well as author interviews and feature-length articles about reading and writing. The site was launched on 14 February by JJ McConnachie and Emma Codd, who both contribute reviews to the site and come from writing backgrounds.

McConnachie told Books+Publishing that the duo began developing the site in October 2013, after they identified an opportunity to create a ‘multi-genre book-dedicated website’ that was more comprehensive than existing book blogs. ‘Emma had done quite a bit of work writing for websites, as opposed to blogs, and I am a website content editor by day, so a website seemed like the perfect fit for both of us,’ said McConnachie.

NZ Booklovers has a team of seven reviewers, including McConnachie and Codd, who each write reviews in the genres of children’s and YA books, general fiction, ‘women’s reads’, ‘bloke’s reads’, science-fiction and fantasy, nonfiction and suspense. McConnachie said the site will also publish reviews submitted by freelance writers.

McConnachie said that NZ Bookslovers is interested in working with publishers that would like to advertise books on the website, and would consider selling books in the future, although not as an affiliate of a particular publishing company.
